Fish Fish made it ^_^

Happy Halloween!!

Had a fun spooghetti lunch party in my work place today.

I bought the ticket last week, which was for US$5.

One thing unexpected...

My boss decided to give us a treat on that.

So, surprisingly, I have US$5 added back to me before I ended my today's work!!! ^_^

I know I am the lucky girl to have such a nice boss.

That US$5 was indeed a very meaningful amount for me this month. You all know why. :P

For my final spending before I ended this project...

I went to Food Lion to hunt for this.

Tralalala~~~ A nice pack of Lindor Truffles from Lindt!!

The special price ended today. I just had to get one because it is soooo good.

Usually, Lindt is always too sweet for me, until I came across this series of it. I never know Lindt has such a good truffles.

How I came across this new favorite of mine?

Thanks to my workmate. He gave us a treat on the Lindor 60% Extra Dark Truffle. It was so smooth, good sweetness and great creaminess. When fish fish had a bite on it, I was closing my eyes naturally to enjoy the moment, like appreciating a good melty hot kiss.

It was like casting a spell on me. I couldn't get rid of it from my mind.

It thrilled me when I got my free Godiva in Crab Tree Valley, I spotted a Lindt Boutique there.

I was like walking into a Candy House full of Yummy Sweets. The shopkeepers were the witches that trying to make me fall into their traps.

I almost did. I almost wanted to spend my pitifully leftover coins in my hands.

A pack was too expensive for me.

I could have afforded the 39 cents/ piece that was sold separately. I nearly grabbed 3 truffles. The struggling moment standing in front of those beautifully shining truffles definitely was bitter than a 100% dark chocolate.

However, I didn't want to give up on my Project. I decided to go away with an empty hand. It was a truly heart pain moment for me to make such a decision.

The Old Heaven Grandpa must have been pitying me. Yesterday, when I was window shopping in Food Lion, I was really thrilled to see the small pack of Lindt truffles was giving good discount. The Extra Dark were sold out. Oh well, no fish, prawn also can lar~~~ There were 3 other types of flavour to choose.

One pack was only US$2.14!! ^_^ Yes!!! It was only 18 cents/piece.

I told myself, if I were to have more than that money left for my final day of the Project, I would go to buy.

I did. :P

So, I ended up having 12 counts of fabulous Lindor Dark Truffles bringing back to my little apartment.

Instantly, I opened one. I just have to indulge it again, been missing it so deeply.

The 1st bite, though it was only the shell that I tasted, it was a effect strong enough for me. Mmm~~~ the hidden bitterness behind the delicate sweetness of the shell. Awesome!

The higher wave was yet to attack me.

My second bite...


The smooth filling, was melting like a butter in my mouth. I could even see the filling melting slowly with the heat from my fingers that were holding it.

Even now, thinking of that, my saliva is dripping out.

Yah... Godiva is good. But will be unpractical to eat too often as you all know, it's VERY EXPENSIVE. One normal Godiva is for US$1.65, imagine that!

The Lindor, is absolutely a good alternative for me.

Winter is coming soon. I need to wait for the next discount time. Tee hee hee... I want to stock up them. Chocolala~~~~

Ok ok... can talk so much on one single chocolate, really cannot endure my addiction to chocolate sometimes.

One more day...


Why am I giggling?

Well, tomorrow is going to be the last day of October. ;)

Oh yes~~~ that means my Project October 100 will be coming to the end soon.

Tomorrow is the final day.

I bought some corn with 90 cents today. I resisted the temptation of buying some good looking pot pie.

How much do I have now?

Not much...

Very few instead...


One more day... let see what will happen then.

I am a Godiva lover.

Last month when I went to Crab Tree Valley for the 1st time...

...instantly, I was attracted by this good-looking Godiva Boutique.

It was like an irresistible pheromone for fish fish.

I ended up bought a glass of Godiva Chocolixir. It was 12 oz. for US$4.75.

It was a glass of Caramel Cold Chocolixir. There were 3 varieties. I chose the dark chocolate flavor freshly blended with real Godiva caramel pieces and topped with caramel sauce.

It was an awesome drink!!! When sipping the creamy dark chocolate drink, I could have a good chew on those real Godiva chunks. It was truly a great pleasure on both the taste and the texture.

It was amazing how this glass of chocolate drink made up such a good day for me.

Well, I made one wrong decision though. I saw this beautiful handmade peanut butter in the same place. I wanted one without asking the price.

The result? I paid US$4 just for a small piece of this not-special-at-all chocolate. It was nice, but not for the price that were quoted. Overpriced!!

But anyway... with these 2 items, I actually were given 2 coupons to get FREE Godiva chocolates!!

Yap, you hear me right.

It was a promotion to get 2 pieces of New Gold Collection chocolate with each coupon. However, one person was only allowed 1 coupon. The effective date was from 29 Sept until 29 Oct 2006.

I decided to ask another chocoholic, Tris to join me for the fun.

So, yesterday, we went to the Crab Tree Valley again.

Coincidently, it was one of those 2 days that the Wheel Of Fortune audition was in action.

See the number of the people that were trying their lucks to be called for the chance to go on the stage for the very 1st stage of the audition?

There were only very few that were really lucky. The remainings left the place with disappointing expressions.

That gave me a chance to go to the front part to see the game. ;)

After a short introduction on themselves, the chosen ones trying hard to solve the puzzle as fast as possible.

The pink blouse black pants lady was the lucky one.

Her prize from the spin was a Wheel Of Fortune hat. Well... not sure what happened next, I assumed she managed to go for the next stage audition.

It was a fun thing to see it in live, although nothing much as excited as the Real Game seen on TV.

Well... something much more exciting was waiting in front of us!! ^_^

4 of them!! All for FREE~~~

I was such a lucky fish. Thanks to Tris for driving and sparing her time to share the chocolate with me... and left her bf watching football game at home. :P

Each of us managed to taste 4 Godiva chocolates. ^_^

Both of us love dark chocolate, so we chose 2 pieces of dark ganache - a Midnight Swirl (Velvety ganache made with 85% chocolate in a dark chocolate shell) and a Dark Ganache Bliss (Deep dark ganache made with 72% chocolate in a dark chocolate shell).

We loved the Midnight Swirl. It was so good. Smooth and creamy. The 85% dark chocolate undoubtedly played its magic on the piece. The Dark Ganache Bliss was nice too, but tend to be more sweet and didn't feel as creamy as the Midnight Swirl.

The remaining 2 pieces, we chose a Dark Mint Medallion (Crisp refreshing mint filling in a dark chocolate shell) and an Open Oyster (Rich bounty of hazelnut praline revealed between milk chocolate shells).

The Dark Mint Medallion was a piece of coin shape chocolate with beautiful motif on the shell. The mint filling inside was nice to go with the dark chocolate shell but was a bit too sweet for me.

But this... the Open Oyster was something that I would like to give a two thumbs up.

The splendid outlook of this piece was something that gave me a good viewing pleasure even before eating it.

One bite, the oyster shell gone away half with half of the creamy soft hazelnut praline inside.

Mmmmm~~~ it was a very high moment for me. It was one piece that triggered my 5 senses.

I am so in love with GODIVA!!

This chocolate moment gave me a good girls' talk too. ;)

Killed 2 birds with one stone. Tee hee hee...

Lexington Barbecue - A must try!!

Today is marking a full two-month fish fish in USA. Geee... time seem to be fast, yet slow. I am counting down for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas!!! Because these are the festivals that I can eat, eat and eat... :P

Hehe... sometimes I am really wondering why my Chinese Horoscope is not a PIG!

Speaking about pig, since today is a day quite special to me, I decided to post about one of the most unforgettable meal I experienced ever since I came to US. (Yah, I know 2 months a bit fast, but I trust my own taste buds. I am sure this place will still be remaining one of the top place I will remember the most whenever people mention BBQ!)

Before I start on that, let me ask you a question for those that are in US...

Do you know that North Carolina is famous with its BBQ?

If yes...

Do you know that there are 2 types of North Carolina BBQ?

The vinegary eastern style and the tomato-laced western style.

Yap, the writer drove more than 5 hrs each to just compare the 2. Geee... I learnt a lot from that article. You should go and read it too. ;) Coincidently, I went to one of the place that was being compared. ^_^ Lucky!

I went all the way to Lexington for trying the Lexington style BBQ (a more common way to say western NC BBQ), as Lexington is well-known as the Mecca for western style BBQ. It took us about 2.5 hrs to reach the small town.

It is a small town, but very nice small town. I like it. In fact, Lexington is best to be visited during the Lexington Barbecue Festival. Here is a little story about it. In fact, the Travel and Leisure Magazine ranked it as One of the Top Ten Food Festivals in USA. Heee... I must try to go for the festival next year.

Although I didn't go to the festival this year... I had a good time for my 1st visit to Lexington.

We went to this eating outlet, Lexington Barbecue, since there were quite a few number of reviews that said this is a great place to experience the true Lexington style BBQ.

See the amount of the cars? That were just a portion of them! It was 4.00pm, which is usually will be considered as non-peak time for an eating outlet.

The more amazing part... this shop is located on a confusing highway, just beside a bridge that was under construction. The highway is actually a Business Loop 85 @ Highway 29-70.

All these didn't stop the people from going to it!!

In the menu, it is clearly written :

We use pork shoulders only. They are cooked about nine hours over hickory and oak coals. We salt the meat before cooking but we do not baste. This is the true Lexington Style Barbecue.

Being a highly curious gluttons... my friend and me ordered one tray of this coarsely chopped BBQ...

... with another tray of sliced BBQ.

They both came with the coleslaw.

Immediately, I was really hooked on the coarsely chopped BBQ. It was divine. The meat was so flavourful. The more I chewed on it, the more it triggered my taste buds. It tasted much much better than its look. So, never be deceived by the cover. ;)

However, I am not recommending the sliced BBQ. It became "tasteless" to me if compared to the chopped version.

The coleslaw, was very GOOD!

Usually, I am not so much into coleslaw back in Malaysia because I didn't like the mayonnaise based coleslaw. However, this one was totally different. I could just eat this vinegar coleslaw non-stop. Definitely is a healthy choice of side dish!

It fact, it has turned my concept on coleslaw to a different direction. ;)

Hehe... the 2 girls didn't really satisfy with just those 2 trays. We were really curious to taste more!!

We ordered a tray of fried onion ring and hush puppies.

It was ok. Nothing particular that impressed me.

So did the Barbecue beans. Something like a ketchup bean, but with strong smoky flavour.

Just went we thought we have had enough varieties to try... a serious sandwich in the mebu caught my attention!!

Guess what?

It was neither a meat, fish nor vegetables sandwich.

Hoglala~~~ Skin sandwich?? Heeee... does it sound gross to you? It sound extremely interesting to fish fish. Such a good food for challenging.

*TRY TRY TRY!!!* My mind ordered me.

*Yes Master* I obeyed to it.

I was really glad I did.

I must say, it was one of the best sandwich I have ever tasted. In term of the idea, the look and the taste - Perfect!!! Who ever thought of this combination was a genius!!

Some part of the crispy deep fried rinds absorbed the sauce from the coleslaw. It gave a different texture for my biting pleasure. The tangy coleslaw and crackling rinds kept tickling my tongue... notty notty.

We didn't finish all the other stuff that we ordered, so we had to take home all of them. However, this sandwich... we ate the whole thing regardless of the bloating stomach that we already had before it was served.

If you really asking for my opinion...

Pig Picking

During the Hari Raya, I thought I was going to have a day really homesick because of kept thinking about all those curries, rendangs, cakes and cookies...

Somehow, I was really a lucky girl. That noon, there was a Pig Picking lunch for us... FOC!! ^_^ And a good dinner during a meeting, FOC again! I gulped so much meat that day. Felt really in a Raya celebration. Tee hee hee...

I went to a meeting and when I came back to my work place, the people who BBQed the whole pig coincidently open the lid to check how ready the pig was.

They kindly let me took a picture on it.

Woolala~~~ it was a HUGE pig. First time seeing a big pig being cooked in whole.

Finally, it was 1.30pm. Surprisingly, there were very few people there. Either they have came earlier for these yummy pork or they would come later.

It was yet another interesting thing to see pulled pork on the whole pig.

Hock is always the part that attract fish fish the most for the whole pig. I just love those collagen. However, I had to give up on it this time.

Neither did I dare to eat this beautiful 3-layers, concerning the saturated fat and calories would gain from it.

The little tail... looked so delicious. It reminded me so much of my mum black bean pig tail soup. I could drink bowl by bowl of that. Mum cooking is always the best.

Hush puppies, bean, coleslaw, potato salad... and of course... the PORK!! And a slice of sweet pound cake.

I loved the pork. So soft, very flavourful. I loved it so much that I decided to take the pork for the 2nd time. This time, with some fatty part. Sinfully yummy.

We were asked to bring some home if we wanted to do so.

I did. :P I took a cup of it.

Now, I'll make the pork into some nice weekend dish then. ^_^

Before I end this, just to tell you one little good news.

Remember my 5-day No CHO? Hehe... I lost 5 lbs from the effort. Yippie!!

Ok, back to my slow and steady dieting now before I go for the 2nd one.

Another 6 days, and my October project will over.

However, I have very few dollars left now. Fish Fish must ganbatte!!

Farewell, Jake!

Today is extremely cold. The coldest day since I came to NC. Funny thing was, I only wore a thin long sleeves shirt and a light sport jacket.

In the mid day, I even walked to 2 meetings with the shirt only. People looked at me in a strange way, as some of them were wearing their thick winter coat. No kidding!

Hehe... either my fat layer is too thick... or the daily sport have somehow build up my thermostate system. :P

However, I could feel the cold in the evening. So, I had to give up my gym and walked back home before it was too cold for me to handle.

It is Hari Raya today. Although I am far far away from home, I had quite a lot of nice food for lunch and dinner... for FREE!! :P Why? I'll tell in my next post.

On Sunday evening, I started to cook this huge pot of thing.

It took about 3 hrs for it to turn into this.

This was a pot of nicely braised beef with quite a number of secret ingredients in it. One of them, was the Japanese miso!! :P

However, this was not the end product.

Yap, I took all the time to cook the beef just to do a Macaroni Goreng. ;)

I love it! So flavourful. Didn't expect the result can be this good. However, it was quite difficult to cook a HUGE pot of this. Therefore, my macaroni was overcook, tend to be too soft. Also, it was quite "dry" if compared to the typical CHO Goreng in Malaysia.

This was the top favorite spot of mine. It has been always my hope to get to live in a place like it. Just imagine the warmth of the hot red fire will just heat up your cold dark winter is able to make one excited. :P

The main focus that night, however, was all the yummilicious...

It was a potluck party, so we have all kinds of FOOD!!!

This was venison pot pie by Ja. He got the venison for free and very fresh. His neighbour hunted a deer and gave a portion of the venison to him.

Oolala~~~ what a good timing. We were the lucky ones!

Oh, one more thing. Ja used to be a professional cook!! Heeee... enough say to make you all know how good this pot pie was. ^_^

However, the venison might be too fresh that it tasted more like a good beef than a venison. Whatever it was, one thing for sure, it was sinfully good.

Je bought the chicken and mixed it with assorted raw vegetables. The gist for this dish was the home-made Thai style dressing by her.

Mamamia... the sweet and sour dressing boosted up our appetite just when we needed to indulge a lot of food. Great choice!

S made a simple yet very home-cooking kind of Mabo Tofu. I missed tofu so much. Some of the guests didn't like tofu, but definitely not fish fish. Apart from being too sweet for a Mabo Tofu, I liked the texture.

Such a cute tray of baked potatoes, wasn't it? Tris made this by adding up cheese and bacon chips. It was fun to eat it with bare hands.

My boss cooked this dish.

He told us this was actually a tradition dish in our workplace. A secret recipe that has been handed from generation to generation. It was called Dallas's Bean Dish.

I love this dish. If not because I was already quite full by the time I tried it, I would go for a 2nd round on it.

Thinking of it now, why didn't I Tapau some back home!! Silly fish!

Among all the dishes, the cutest and most spooky dish for the night was definitely this spider's nest by Pai!!

So cute!! I could almost feel the Halloween was getting a big leap nearer.

Oh no, the spider was inedible. However, little Corina liked them so much that she decided to kidnap one of them home. LOL

Well, the beautiful green and white were actually a combination of guacamole, sour cream and cream cheese. For the bottom layer, there was pinto bean dish.

Clock wise from the * sign : Corn bread (I loved it!), the chicken, the venison, the tofu, the macaroni, the pinto bean and the potato.

Then, I ate the Dallas's Bean.

The 3rd round? It was time for the great dessert!!!

My boss got 2 big cakes for FREE from The Cheesecake Factory!!

Each of them must be at least 5 lbs!!

Well, you could really see the vanilla bean spreaded so nicely inside the cake.

It was nice, but as I am not a fan on vanilla flavour, so I actually enjoyed the crusty bottom the most. :P

... and another half a slice of this, they formed one huge slice of cheesecake!!


I would rather call it God Diva!!! I felt like a goddess that was over-spoilt!!!

The densed creamy cheesecake with the bitter taste of the dark chocolate... with godiva chocolate chunk in between giving you a more than pleasure texture surprise. It was a flourless piece, so imagine how rich the taste was! It made me wanna laugh when I was eating it.

I finished the whole thing with a lot of efforts, as my stomach were more than a bloating stage!!

One lesson learnt! No matter how good the thing is, eating it with a full stomach will definitely spoil the enjoyment.

The next time if I am going to have such a luck for another Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake again, I will surely gulp them into my stomach first. :P

Argh... another silly thing!! Why didn't I think of Tapau this home as well. *sob sob sob*

Too late!

Jake and Ying were enjoying themselves very much too. They are really nice people. Too bad they have gone. Hopefully they will enjoy the new place! Bless the 2 of you from the bottom of fish fish's heart.

Before they went away, they gave each of us a surprise! SOOOO SWEET!!!

I got one set with the lid.

So nice! Gonna use it for nice warm green tea during the winter! Or maybe a nice cup of Hot Godiva Chocolate Drink!!!

A Sunday spent with Jake and Ying

My workmate, Jake and his wife, Ying came over to my place to have lunch and watched a football game.

Jake is going to leave us for good on coming Tuesday for his new job in Minneapolis. Although I didn't have much time to know him better, he is definitely one of the great person to be with. In fact, he taught me quite a lot of things about US. :P

They came with 1/3 dozens of Hornsby's Hard Apple Cider and 2 packs of my favorite, Chocolate!! ^_^

He got the left chocolate from Holland and right one from Switzerland.

I don't usually drink alcohol, but this one tasted more like a soft drink. I had a whole bottle of it!!! which later I mixed it with Welch Grape Juice to make another kind of refreshment. :P I like it both though. But I know, an extra 300 kcal was added on me after the consumption. Worse, I enjoyed it with so much junk food. Oops!!

Oh well, just forget about my diet for today and tomorrow.

Fish Fish just prepared a very simple lunch - Fried Rice. -_-"""

Well, this fried rice actually included quite a few ingredient.

Bacon, ground beef, onion, carrot, corn, sweet pea and Jasmine brown rice.

I had a headache of trying to look for a suitable seasoning for making the taste as I didn't have any seasoning for fried rice at home.

But then, an idea clicked.


I used 3 teaspoons of Lawry's Beef Stew Spices and Seasonings!!

No kidding.

The result? It was surprisingly good.

Jake and Ying so nice, they said my fried rice was yummy.

Heeeee... I hope it was true.

It has been a wonderful lunch. Yeah, I broke my fasting today with such a good way. Anyway, it is going to be buka puasa soon in Malaysia. Must join the festive (what an excuse!)

That means I ended my 5-day No CHO Diet. In fact, the 5-day without CHO quite cleansed my body.

My next No CHO Diet? I am going to do it in November again for 2 weeks, before the Thanks Giving. Meanwhile, I shall give myself a whole week rest before I go for this more extreme diet again.

No chance to weight how heavy I am now today as I didn't have any time to go to the gym.

Neither I will do it tomorrow, as it's going to be the Farewell Party for Jake and Ying in my boss's house.

I am cooking a dish for this potluck party. It's going to be fun!! Can't wait to see what others going to bring.

As for fish fish's?

I'll let you all know in my next post. ;)

NC State Fair ends today. Rainy gloomy day. *sigh* What a day to end such a fun.

I'll go to scoop the ice cream again next year. :P (The posts about the Fair will be coming up later.)

A brain storming walk at night

I am very tired today. Have been working for the whole day. Have to skip my gym as it was late for me by the time I finished my stuff.

While waiting for the time to go back to continue my work, I came home to watch a premium for a new TV programme.

For the 1st time, I walked alone on the street such late. I have done this uncounted times in Japan, I didn't feel insecure. However, it is different in US. I brought my long unmbrella although the weather was really good. Heeee... just in case someone came near me, I would swing my umbrella to hit his important parts first before I ran for life. :P

Well, nothing happened actually. My work today turned out to be a failure. It was the sad part.

However, on the way walking home, my brain was functioning so clear. Just that short 20 min walk, I had a few new ideas on trying out on the task. Mmm... I am curious to try them out for the coming weeks. Hopefully, there will be a positive progress from one of them.

I didn't spend any money today. However, as I will be cooking a dinner for treating 2 friends at home and cooking a dish for a party of 14 people on Monday, I am having a headache now. How to make good and yummy dishes from not expensive ingredients? Adding to that, I would have to buy a party ticket for Halloween Party on coming Monday. -_-"""

Oh well, there will definitely be a good way. I'll think about it tomorrow. Tonight want to sleep sweet sweet.

Yesterday evening, on the way to supermaket, I saw US$3 on the road side. Someone must have dropped it. I didn't pick the money up as the money was not mine. When I walked back on the same street again, the money was gone. Hopefully, it was the owner that found the money. I don't know if this had anything to do with my weird dream last night. It was a really strange dream. Extremely strange. I know something big is going to happen when these unexplainable dreams come into my sleep.

Will it be a GOOD big thing??

Pam's Farmhouse Restaurant - A true ol' country cooking

It was my last shift for scooping and shaking the ice cream. The most tired day for me. Have been working non-stop inside a hot room. It was fun though. I brought some ice cream back home, as I don't take CHO this week. I am going to save these ice creams until I have lost more weight. :P

Well, as a new resident in North Carolina, which is a part of the Southern USA, it is a must to get to know more about cuisine of the Southern US. You will be seeing me talking about southern food and soul food from time to time in my blog then. ;)

I went to Pam's Farmhouse Restaurant a few weeks ago to have a nice weekend's breakfast. I went there because my workmate told me it is a famous place for some Southern style home cooking.

It was a very warm-feeling cafeteria, with very friendly and nice service from the waitress. In fact, I kept seeing the staffs hugging with customers for a morning greeting.

After some recommendation from the staff, I ordered one portion of fatback and grits.

As you can see, the fatback is the layer of fat along the back of a pig. They fried it to very crunchy. However, this one turned to be too hard.

While Grits, is actually a maize porridge, a common food in Southern US. There are many ways to eat grits. One of it is with red-eye gravy. Errr... I can't take coffee, so I didn't taste the red-eye gravy.

I wanted something with stronger taste after the bland grits. After a few suggestions, I decided to go on this one.

A biscuit dish. However, they prepared the way different from the one I had before. This time, it was a biscuit with gravy.

Finally, I had a chance to try the biscuit in gravy. :P I have always curious about it. Well, it was definitely something very different as the biscuit soaked up the thick gravy. It made the flaky biscuit turned into something very soft and "fluffy". Well, too bad the gravy was too salty, or else it is going to be a great dish.

Oooo~~~ the breakfast triggered my curiosity on Southern food. I will definitely try them more in the future. In fact, I had tried a few, which will be coming up. ;)
