When Mr. Food Guide turned 41

Mr. Food Guide has a gifted date for birthday. On this day, the whole world will be cheering for him each year.

Yeah, he was a New Year Baby 41 year ago.

He is a great food guide and I am really learning so much about food in this country from him.

On the new year eve, I decided to treat him a simple yet yummy dinner.

We went to an Asian supermarket and got 2 live dungeness crabs that each weighed more than 2 pounds. The staff killed the crabs for us FOC. Made our work much easier to handle the crabs at home.

Mr. Food Guide was in charged of the crabs. He simply used ginger slices and Chinese wine to flavour up the crab.

At the same time, fish fish decided to prepare the Toshikoshi Soba (年越し蕎麦) as our source of carbohydrate.

Here is a little Japanese cultural background for the reason to eat this Soba.

In Japan, New Year Eve is called Omisoka. During this day, it is based on supertitious reason that Japanese people eat soba. Before an old year is over, it is a must to eat all the soba without any leftover, or else the whole new year you will not be blessed with good money luck.

It was very simple to prepare this Toshikoshi Soba with the prepacked raw soba with the sauce attached.

Tralala~~~ 2 big Master Crabs and 2 bowls of soba... we were ready to eat like gluttons. Tee hee hee...

See how beautiful these crabs? Mr. Food Guide claimed he over-steamed the crabs which disrupted a bit the nice texture of the crabs.

However, it was yummy for fish fish. Fresh things will never be wrong by cooking it in a simple way.

Gosh~~~ we were so full. This was definitely one of the best new year eve dinner I have experienced. I love dungeness crab!!

After this meal, I don't think I want to get into the huge crowd in one of those overpacked restaurants to spend much higher price for those not-too-fascinating fixed New Year eve dinner set. ;)

We were ready for the count down mood though...

We later dressed up and went to Taps Brea to join the party crowd. Each person was charged US$20 for that special moment.

Mr. Food Guide was into mood for a cigar. I tried one sip too... *cough cough cough* Gosh~~~ truly not my cup of tea. *cough cough*

Even Mr. Food Guide had a good cough.

"Hey Handsome, you just got to smoke like a man~~~" A deep voice sexy lady told him, then blew out a ring of white smoke and smile at him while tilted her shoulder a bit. Haha! Wow~~~ these ladies really know how to turn on men.

Soon, only 30 second for 2006 to tiptoe away.

Happy New Year!!!

People we hugging, kissing and cheering... while sipping down that cheap glass of "champagne".

We truly enjoying the music while shaking our butts with the beats.

Then, it was time to blow the candles.

Happy Birthday!! Turning 41? You still kicking good in shape.

I wish I'll be in such a good shape too when I am in your age. Oh yes, that will need a lot of effort. :P
