I eat so much until people call me Dr. Fish Fish.

Mom is sleeping on the sofa

I went to airport by myself to pick-up mom today at LAX. Same morning, DH went to LAX at 7 a.m. for a 5-day business trip. They missed by a few hours! Oh well, Thursday then.

Finally, I see my mom again after 8 months. She should have arrived on April 14. However, thanks to the "excellent speed" of Canada Embassy in K.L. processed her Canada visitor visa, she had to delay the flight until 10 days later. It actually took them 8 freaking weeks to return my mom her passport, that was even with pushing from the travel agency telling the Embassy, "Hey, if you don't want to give my client her visa to visit Canada, be it. You need to return her passport now as she cannot delay her flight anymore to go to U.S."

I am really glad she is finally here. Although one of her luggage is missing in action and she totally forgot to bring my address information here. -_-""" Called the luggage center of United Airlines and they told me they have found it. Ok, I hope none of my thing will be missing by the time it reached here. Especially my scuba diving equipment. Usually, arrivals in LAX will be located in Tom Bradley International arrival hall. However, they are having another international arrival location in Terminal 6 now. Hmmm... very confusing. This is not helping much to improve the image of LAX which is already of at the bottom of my list.

Mom is tired, I am tired. We will take our day slow today. She picked up a huge tub of ice cream made with real strawberries, antioxidant rich pomegranate juice and 99cents per pound super sweet strawberries to start her journey. How does that sound?

Ok, signing off now.

Happy Earth Day!

It is a happy day for me as I managed to grab a few free gifts! ;) All the events only for today.

First, for myself, I traded my empty anti-wrinkle serum with a full size Origins Check and Balances Frothy face wash. The lady at the counter was very nice. She even gave me some scrub to try at home without me even asking. My Dr. Ci:Labo foam washer is running out, so good timing. Thank you Origins! Oh, I just got to know the grandson of the Estee Lauder's owner is the founder of this brand. Oh yah, bring your own shopping bag, then you save a plastic bag.

Then, I brought my six empty bottles to a Disney Store. They turned my bottles into a youth baseball cap. (Yes, the baseball cap is made of recycled bottle). It is a beautiful blue hat. I am pretty sure my nephew will love it. ;) Thank you Disney.

Finally, I went to a Babies R Us store with a printed coupon to get a free reusable shopping bag. I will give that cute purple shopping bag to my sister since she just had a new born baby few months ago. After I got mine, I passed my coupon to another lady with a toddler. Hope she will go and get one, and pass that paper to another person. That way we can save printing papers. Thank you Babies R Us.

Living in U.S. can be fun if you know the way. ;)

Okay, dinner time with DH. It is our eating out day every Thursday.

Dr. Ci:labo: My kind of skincare

Thanks to my parents, I was born with a pretty good skin condition. This made me one less worry since I also inherited long body short leg, double chin, big face and flat face traits from my father. These are the few traits DH like to joke about me from time to time. Yes ladies, help me to virtually punch and hit him as many times as you want.

When I turned 18, though I was sometimes bothered by a popping pimple here and there on my face, I never had severe face skin problem. I could eat a whole kg of peeled peanuts at one go (I actually did one time, until my teeth was so numb and pain), and would find myself with only three pimples grew on my face the next day. My pimples loved to grow on my arms and back.

Those years, Hazeline Deep Cleansing Foam and Hazeline White & Natural Lightening Face Cream were the only two skin care products that I carried. They were so mild and matched my combination skin nicely. For more than a decade, I have been only using Hazeline and not other brands. I did try to use other brands before, my ended up having breakout and skin peeling problem, which prompted me to stop. I always went back to this cheap yet good option. Used to stock them up like a dozen to bring to Japan during my student years.

Then, when I was 28, suddenly I saw trace of fine lines around my eyes. It was a very panic moment for me. As alarming as the moment I saw my first grey hair at 24, due to days of short hour sleep. It was almost like the most importing thing for me the next day to fine some anti-wrinkle cream. That was my first most expensive haul on skin care, a bottle of Sofina Wrinkle Seraty, which worked fine for me. I continued to use my Hazeline and Sofina for quite some time until I moved to U.S.

The long distance with the then BF (now DH), long working hour, irregular and short sleeping habit plus my insanity as a game maniac in Neopets have paid me with a heavy fine. My lines condition around the eyes were getting serious that Sofina Wrinkle Seraty could not work as effective as before. Also, the Hazeline products were not good anymore. I don't know why they changed the formula, if that was the case, the foam became watery and hurting eyes while the cream was giving a drying out sensation on my face. It was time to bid farewell to Hazeline.

During one of my visit to L.A., the then BF brought me to Marukai to do some groceries shopping. I came across a brand, Dr. Ci:Labo that I have seen too many times on TV during my years in Japan, but never bother to know more about it. Somehow, that day, I decided to spend more than US$120 to get just two items to try. It was ironic how I turned to buy a Japanese brand skin care product after I left the country.

So glad I spent those US$120. I am now a huge fan of Dr. Ci:Labo products.

At the moment, I am using three of their products.

Super Washing Foam Ex, US$30 (they increased the price again, it used to be US$28) before tax. This is my one and only face foam washer. The foaming property of this tube is AMAZING! Just squeeze a very small amount, moist a little and you will see a lot of fine bubbles forming in between your rubbing palms. A 100g tube lasts 4-5 months for me. I wash my face 2-3 times per day. This thing is so gentle that it does not hurts my eyes.

After cleansing my face, my must put on Aqua-Collagen-Gel Super Moisture. A 120g size cost US$82 before tax. My Holy Grail for skin care. A bottle last me more than 5 months, I am using much less than the suggested amount as I just want to moisturize my skin, not to turn it sticky. The website describes it as having effectiveness of toner+millkylotion+makeupbase+beautyessence+brighteningessense in one! I strongly agree. If I am allowed to choose only one type of skin care, this will be THE ONE. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this, except for the slightly silly packaging. I use my finger to apply it. It is extremely moisturizing the skin, yet doesn't make my face feel greasy at all. I have combination skin type, and this gel has made my skin remain hydrolized the whole day. It is so light on my face I hardly feel my face is not-naked. In fact, after I started using it, most of my fine lines had gone, except a couple stubborn one around my eyes and on my forehead.

Since I have been using it, I have received quite a number of compliments about my great skin condition. Even the skin care and beauty counters could not sell me their products as they could not detect fine lines around my eyes, but they are targeting on my black spots. There were a few times they said, "I wish I have a skin condition like yours." That is a great compliment for me.

This gel is also very good as my makeup base before putting on whole bunch of other things on my face. It is almost like a shield layer for my skin and the other skincare and beauty products. They blend really well with it too. It doesn't matter if I am using a high-end or drugstore brand cosmetic, as long as I apply this, I feel secure.

Last year Christmas, I decided to try their new products. The Aqua-Collagen-Gel Enrich-Lift-Ex. US$87 for 120g. I don't like this as much as my Holy Grail. Although it says use on the whole face, personally, I think it is too sticky for me, even with very small amount. Still, I use it as my double protection around my eyes area. It is my eye-cream. Southern California weather is very dry, and to remain my skin hydrate whole day is so essential for me. I have been using it for 4 months, and I still have 2/3 remained. I think one bottle of 120g will last me a whole year. Maybe when I get older, this will be a more suitable product for me.

My washing foam and super moisture gel are running out and I am glad I wrote this post, as I just found out they are having promotion now! Yippie. See the promotion here. They are giving out a US$33 value of items with $85 or more purchase. Just the right timing for me to do my restock. ;)

Also, Yuriko went back to Japan a while ago. She is so kind that she helped me to get a Super White 377 Ex and a BB Perfect Cream. Both are not available in U.S. yet, but I think you can get them in Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore too. I tried the Super White 377 samples that came with my purchase, and somehow my black spots are getting lighter, so I am really excited to try this double power Super White 377 Ex. I have never used a BB cream and I am curious. Since this BB Perfect Cream has EGF with SPF35 and water resistance, I will give it a try. I am just worry about the shiny face part as I know BB cream have a lot of shining pearl to give shimmery face effect, which is a welcoming thing by Korean ladies but not me. I hope the Japanese version will make it targeted at the more natural looking Japanese makeup trend. The BB Perfect Cream is described to be a combination of cream+moisturizer+sunblock+toner+concealer+foundation.

I will let you all know after I have tried them. But for now, I will just wait patiently for them to get delivered to me. ^_^ Thank you soooo much Yuriko. XOXO

Hehe... I know it is a very long post, just showing how much I like these skin care products. If you have combination skin like me, you might want to give it a try. ;)

Ok... signing out. I need to make chewy oatmeal raisin cookies now. My first attempt!! :P

Chick-Fil-A "Raincheck"

Few weeks ago, DH's co-worker was telling him about "Raincheck" in Chick-Fil-A. Knowing I am a big fan of Chick-Fil-A, right after Bojangle's, DH forwarded the information to me.

Basically, on a rainy day, if I go to the Chick-Fil-A nearby my house and tell them I want a "Raincheck", all I need to do is paying US$2 for a large drink and I get any entree for FREE.

If you ask me, I will tell you Chick-Fil-A has the best white meat. I am not a white meat person, but I find the Chick-Fil-A Chick and Strips and Chicken Sandwich are addictive. My only problem is, they are quite expensive, considering the 4-piece Chick-Fil-A is for US$4.65 and chicken sandwich is for US$3.75 before tax.

So today, since I was in the area to buy a few boxes for storaging purpose, I decided to drive across the street for my dose of Chick-Fil-A in a long time.

I just said I want a Raincheck. I got a 32 oz Diet Coke for US$2, along with 4-piece Chick-Fil-A for FREE. The service is great.

I am not sure if this "Raincheck" is only for certain locations or all across the country. No harm to try next time on a rainy day. Just tell them you want a "Raincheck", and if it works, you know when to get your cheap Chick-Fil-A meal. ;)

Almost identical

On Easter Sunday, I forgot people were busy picking eggs. I went to the mall thinking to get some skincare products.

Of course, it was a disappointment as almost the whole mall was closed. Almost.

However, I was glad I drove a big round before heading home. Sears was the only one in the mall opened until 6 p.m. that day.

Usually, when I am in Sears, I am waiting for DH to buy things. But this time, I just decided to visit the 2nd floor for the 1st time.

There were a clearance for shoes.

My feet are wide, it is not an easy thing for me to buy sexy looking shoes, because they all ended up looking horrible on me.

I was so happy when the red ones actually look good on me, better still, they have my size!! For only US$13 per pair, these were really good deal.

Then, I found another identical blue version with my size!!! I just have to get both of them.

I am a happy giant rabbit that day. Jumping home happily with my colourful shoes. ^_^

p/s: I am baby sitting, eating Guazi with the little Sammie. ;)

The 10th photo in my folder

I did not go for my free coffee nor Cinnabon. Too tired from shopping gifts. DH also worked until 2 a.m. For the 1st time in a long time, I slept earlier than him.

Anyone knows the Outnet.com $1 sales? I submitted for the invitation too, but did not get anything as I only woke up at 8:30 a.m. West Coast time. Apparently, it started at 3.30 a.m. West Coast time. There are tonnes of complains on the net now. Even if you stayed awake until then trying to grab one $1 items that worth hundreds or even thousands, the site was down all the time due to overwhelmed shopaholics crowds. Well, the lucky hundreds few got the deals, but leaving probably millions other with great disappointment. Many are saying they are not going to buy anything from Outnet.com anymore. Well, I've never bought anything from them yet, as the items usually cost hundreds to thousands, which I will never pay that kind of money for a cloth. I don't need them too. Maybe a bag, when I am economically can afford it. Outnet.com sure gets the publicity they yearned. But to put so many hopeful ladies with nights of excitement then poured cold water on them, not nice at all.

Of course I would like to get a $1 deal too. But thinking about the numbers of hunters that were waiting to get their preys, and I still can live my life nicely without these deals, I will just stick to much much much easier to get clothings at US$10.

Ok, back to my title's topic. mNhL tagged me to do a meme. Well, usually I don't do tag, but I thought this one was pretty interesting. Out of curiosity, I went to look at my 10th photo in my 1st photo folder.

Guess what?

It was a photo of me getting my makeup done for my one and only wedding photo shooting.

It was November 27, 2008.

Mom insisted to have at least a photo for them to announce to relatives and friends in the newspaper back home about my marriage. Mom told me she and dad answered phone until their hands were sored on the day the marriage was published. LOL

For that, we went to get a few hundreds dollar-wedding dress.

Then, I was sitting there two hours to get my brows, makeup and hair done. DH was patiently waiting for me during the whole time. He got the patience.

The total damage for that two-hour session alone cost around US$150. I wish I knew how to do makeup like I am now (still practising, but getting better), would have saved so much money. At least that amount of money can get me a full set of makeup items that will last me for months. :P

My makeup artist learnt the makeup by herself since she was only a teenager. I was holding my new camera, a Christmas gift from DH, unexpectedly. I did not accustome to it in the beginning because I was so used to my Olympus. I still like the color quality of Olympus, but this Canon is definitely much more convenient when comes to cheaper memory cards, faster turn on time and better downloading software. Olympus need to improve in those few points.

DH handmade a proposal card to hide inside my birthday card. I received it 3000 miles away one day before my birthday. He was waiting for me to discover the proposal part, but I did not. Yeah, I was dumbed. Finally, a friend accidentally discovered it while I showed her my birthday card on my birthday. 26 days later, two of us who were apart 3000 miles got married in Orange County, CA and there was no return road. LOL

Thank you my DH. I know I give you a lot of headache from time to time. Do continue to heart me okay? Your SYY.

I am not going to tag anyone to do this meme. :)

Free Treats on Tax Day

Tomorrow will be Tax Day again. Have you submitted yours?

I finished mine in February this year. However, the refund has been slower that it used to be. Based on my track, I probably will only get my refund on 11 May.

Oh well. I guess I will have to stick to the Hubby-sponsored weekly pocket money for the time being.
Good news! Yahoo! Finance just posted a nice news for all the taxpayers. Read here.

A few chain stores a giving freebies on April 15, 2010, Thursday!!

CINNABON: Get two free bite-sized cupcakes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at participating mall locations as part of "Tax Day Bites!" Flavors include Chocolate Passion, 24-Carrot Cake, Vanilla Bliss and Cinnacake Classic.

MAGGIEMOO'S: Get one free slice of ice cream pizza from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thurday at participating locations.

STARBUCKS: Get free brewed coffee all day Thursday if you bring your own mug, a promotion the cafe chain says is friendly to the environment as well as taxpayers.

Good things we have Startbuck and Cinnabon near our apartment. DH used to enjoy two cup of Starbucks per week, ever since we got married, he had to reduce it to one cup per month. Poor thing. I am going to drag DH to bring our mugs, enjoying a cup of free coffee while popping two bites of Cinnabon.

DH brought me to Adult Con today. My first time in such a convention. Usually, I will be surrounded with people all talking about foods when I am attending a conference, but this one, I saw a lot of Otakus versus skimpy dressed porn stars. I thought it was funny that they sticked pink or red love stickers on their nipples.

DH paid US$70 online for both of us, including a US$10 credit coins to use. If you get the ticket at the convention, it will be US$40 per pax. I was hoping for something bigger and more exciting with that kind of entrance fee. Disappointingly, it was very small that we could finish the whole thing in less that 1 hour. Nothing much really happened. However, some Otakus really go beyond the line to take close-up photos of the models as much as possible.

The porn stars in reality are very different from their air-brushed versions, although there are a few of them that actually look quite attractive in real person with nice figure. Mostly, I see a lot of stretch marks, flabby tummies and cellulites!!!

Most of them are quite friendly, only a few that are quite cocky. Being a female is good, as they usually take a photo with you for free. Hehe... One that attracted me the most is a guy that dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow, as real as he is!! I am a hardcore fan of Pirates of the Caribbean series, so I took a photo of him from far. I don't know how did he noticed that, then he said to me "You sneaky little devil."

Oops, I gave him an embarrasing smile and planning to go away. All of sudden, he came out from his booth and said, "Come, let's take a photo together. *wink*". Yeah yeah!! I took a photo with Captain Jack Sparrow... errrr... almost him. :P

Well, there is still another day tomorrow for the Adult Con. Is it worth the money?? Personally, nope.

Save your money to go to a Spearmint Rhino instead. The first and only time DH suddenly brought me to a Spearmint Rhino, two of the strippers pulled my hands to touch their naked bodies. Talking about experience. Hehe...

Purseblog Forum

I found The Purseblog more than a year ago when I was doing some research to buy a bag. Later, it led me to its Purseblog Forum. I joined the forum out of curiosity. For the first few months, I was merely an observer.

Then, since I came back from Malaysia, I became more active in the forum. Little did I realize, I have been a member for almost a year.

My initial purpose was to get 1st hand reviews and opinions regarding a certain bag that I am interested. But lately, my obsession on bags are fading, and I have shifted to skincare and beauty.

I guess it is a sign I am getting older. LOL When you are getting older, you tend to put more thing on your face to "protect" it.

Also, although a slow start, I am into learning and practising makeup. I am amazed at the amount of cosmetics and skincare that I bought these few months. However, most of them I bought during promotion with discount or free gifts.

How do I learn about so many information about these offers?

Through the Deals and Steals thread in Purseblog Forum.

Nope, I am not doing advert for them or anything. I just thought I was enjoying so much from these deals, might as well share it in my blog.

In fact, since I am not that interested to eat yummy foods lately (meaning less healthy foods that gives me health problems), and so many things I have bought through online, it will be good to share my experiences here. :)
